Another V-day project

I'm so pleased with the way the paper flowers turned out I just cant stop playing with them.
This was actually really fun to build. I decided to try a heart shape and I'm a little surprised that I like it.

Happy Valentines Day

A cupcake in a jar!
Ok, here I am trying to 'think out of the box' for Valentines Day and I end up with something quite traditional but with a fun dough-style twist. Everything old is new again.
So simple to make but guaranteed to make those you give them to feel very special.

A little gift for Mom

My darling Mom enjoys creating an atmosphere and making loved ones feel special just as much as I do. (I'm pretty sure thats where I got it!) When I started making coffee filter flowers I knew she would love them. I put a few together in different colors and put them in a fun box with a special little note just to say Thanks For Everything. I know she'll have using these flowers to top off her gifts.

Does this count?

I repurposed an old trashy romance novel. That counts as a Valentines craft right?

Valentines Day. Ugh.

NOT my favorite holiday. I absolutely have ZERO inspiration when it come to Valentines Day. I don't know what it is I just cant get into it. I've been asked to come up with a couple of projects but I am struggling here! Arg.... Perhaps I'll put a new foo-foo twist on one of my favorite projects. That should work, right?

Coffee Filters, Did you know.............

The first time I worked with coffee filters was last summer. I was making fabulous little cuppie snuggies for Lexi's birthday party. Now I am a complete coffee filter junkie. These things are great! You can do anything with them!
Todays filter creation... Fabulous Flowers.

You can make your flowers whatever size you like. Just fold your filters in quarters and trim to your desired size.

Ink the edges of your filters. You can use ink pads or markers. Try using more than one color!
Next use water or glimmer mist and spray your inked filters. You will be able to see the color spread. Let filters dry. I like to just lay them on the heater vent or use a blow dryer.
Once they have dried stack the filters and then fold in half and then in half again.
With one had hold the pointed end tight then with your other hand begin to 'fluff' your fab flower to perfection. At this point I like to hit it again with a little more glimmer mist. Take a piece of ribbon or twine to secure the back of the flower and thats it! Now you have a super cool flower done just the way you like.
I absolutely love to use these on gifts. Ribbons and bows, dough style.

Glitter Mist......I made it myself!

Seriously... Why didn't I do this before?
At last, I took matters into my own hands. I love glitter mist on anything and everything. Now I can create my own version of glitter mist in any color combination I see fit. (for some weird reason glimmer mist is hard to find in Utah. If you are lucky enough to find it its usually in a funky color and outragously expensive.)
I used a small spray bottle, warm water, glitter dust, mod podge, and a color base.
I filled the spray bottle with water about 3/4 full. Next I add my color base. For this you can use ink refill, acrylic paint or food coloring. You only need to add a small amount of color. Next I add the bling which is glitter dust, micro-fine glitter, or even old eyeshadow powder. The final step is optional. I use just a drop or two of white glue or mod podge. This helps the dust stick to the surface of your project. Another way of 'setting' the mist is to spray your project with hairspray when dry.
Ta-da! Thats it. Fabulous bling, dough style of course.

Isaacs book report

Isaac has a book report due at the end of the week. He chose the book "Diary of a Wimpy Kid 5". His favorite part of the book is when the main character is given an egg to treat as a baby for a homework assignment. He put his egg in the fridge for the night and when he went to get it in the morning it was gone. He asked his mother and she told him that she had scrambled the egg!
After Isaac gives his report to the class he is going to hand out these cute little eggs with treats inside. Cute right!?

Shutter door project COMPLETE

I saw these cute shutter doors at DI and I just knew I could do something with them. I picked up a few cans of black spray paint and this is what happened. (The doors were only $10!)

Isaac's new FAVE

My boys LOVE french toast. Chance started making his own french toast when he was in the first grade. So cute!
A few weeks ago I came across a super easy bread pudding recipe which actually turns out like a breakfast casserole. Isaac LOVES it!

(*Dianna, I just got your email. SO SORRY! I'll post the recipe pronto! Duh!)

Cube approximately 8 Cups of bread. You can use day old or I prefer to place the bread cubes in a warm oven and kinda toast them.

In a medium bowl mix:

6 eggs ¼ t. salt 1 C. sugar ¼ t. nutmeg ¼ t. cinnamon ½ t. vanilla

Mix gently with a whisk only until combined. You don’t want the eggs to become frothy. Next, slowly add 1 qt (32) half and half. Pour mixture over bread and let sit for about 2 hours. Heat oven to 350 and bake for 50 minutes in a water bath. I like to make this the night before and let it sit in the frig overnight. When I wake in the morning, I just pop it in the oven and by the time the boys are up its fresh, warm and yummy!

Yummy Soup

I LOVE to create 'atmosphere' so when I saw these cute little soup bowls at Big Lots for $2 I had to scoop them up.
There is nothing better than warm soup on a cold winter day. I whipped up some creamy potato soup, threw a little cheese on top and served it in these darling bowls. I swear the cute bowls made the soup taste better!!!

Another 'twisted' corn husk wreath

With this corn husk wreath I used dark brown spray paint and then hit it here and there with super-fine glitter (Did I mention I LOVE super-fine glitter?)

Corn husk wreaths with my own personal twist

I picked up 2 bags of corn husks from Albertsons for about $4. For the first wreath I decided to soak the husks in tea. I wasn't sure how it would work but much to my surprise it looked great. When they dried I inked the edges to give it a beat-up look. Here is how it turned out...... (OK just noticed these photos don't show much detail. I'll take new pics and post ASAP)

Winter headbands

We wanted to look cool when hitting the slopes so this is what we came up with.....
We found some headbands at Walmart for $1! Cant beat that, right! We made fabric flowers from various fabrics we had at home (we even cut up a t-shirt and skirt to make the flowers). We also used our Knifty Knitter to make or knit headbands and then glued on one of the cute flowers we made.
